Where we left off, I had just gotten into the Ranma 1/2 panel just to grab a seat for the following panel and, to be honest, it reminded me of how much I actually liked that series. If you’re a fan, this is what you should know: they’re re-releasing the manga in 19 double volumes that have been remastered so the art is much cleaner. It’s been re-input from the original Japanese pages and they’re not flopped like the previous editions so they’ll read right to left. The original anime series is also getting the Bluray (and DVD) treatment and both of these projects are set to be released sometime in the spring of 2014.

nycc-blacksailsThen it was time for the Starz panel and holy fuck tits am I looking forward to Black Sails! They showed the first six minutes where Captain Flint attacks a ship– but we see it from the point of view of the victims. Let me say that again, we’re introduced to the pirates from the point of view of the people being murdered and looted (and exploded).

The other two series they previewed were season 2 of DaVinci’s Demons and Ron Moore’s new series Outlander. I haven’t read the books and they had very little to show so I’m lukewarm on the project right now.

I’m fucking boring when I’m at a place I’ve never been to so I just went through Times Square, Central Park and grabbed some grub and beer at a diner. Why the hell are there so many fucking diners in NYC? Like I said, boring and I needed to get some writing and work in so I went back to the hostel I’m staying in Brooklyn.

Come the next day, I get my ass to the next panel I want to see– actually, there’s 2. Either the Mythbusters panel or the J. Michael Straczynski (creator of Babylon 5) panel. The Mythbusters panel was fucking long beyond measure and the JMS one was not. So I went to the JMS panel.

Side story: I briefly ran into JMS in the press lounge cuz I’m a fanboy and B5 is one of my fave series. I thanked him, he was gracious and probably more interested in eating his $4.50 hotdog than talking to a fanboy.

What I was more interested in was his new TV series being created with the Wachowski’s called Sense8. The series follows 8 people who develop an empathic connection with each other and are being hunted down by an agency… that’s all he’s revealed plot-wise.

They’re also shooting in 7 countries simultaneously with a different director in each city including the Wachowskis and JMS. The first idea for a name for production company they were going to go with was Wachowski Wachowski Straczynski Productions but they since shortened it to “Unpronounceable Productions”.

As he was talking, the next room over (which we guessed was probably the signing area) kept on interrupting by sounding like a loud screaming stampede. He asked if anyone had any explosives and I mentioned the story where I was stopped at customs on my way to NYC because after swabbing my carryon luggage and they got a hit on trace amounts of explosives– or possibly fertilizer. “These are my fans, people.”

I think I scared the shit out of him.

The rest of the day I just hung out with Aggressive Comix CEO Rich who despite working together, I hadn’t met yet. He introduced me to several awesome people and at the end of the day, we ended up at a bar for beer and just shot the shit. I think he learned really early that the only thing you need to do to keep the Canadian happy is feed him beer.

As the night drew to a close we all parted ways and I ended up back at the hostel. It’s now Sunday and I’m sitting at the airport waiting for my flight– it’s Canadian thanksgiving so I had to cut my trip to NYC a bit short.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned from this trip it’s this, eat from the street carts and trucks. They’re fucking awesome.
