Marcia Wallace, the voice of Mrs. Krabappel, died last month of complications from a pneumonia at age 70. The Simpsons snuck in a tribute to her in the recent opening chalkboard gag last Sunday and it’s a pretty sad one.

The Simpsons have been on the air for 25 seasons– she’s been our 4th grade teacher for 25 YEARS. Or looked at another way, Marcia Wallace has been playing that part since she was 45. Whether you’re still watching The Simpsons or not, you feel that impact.

The producers have said that they’ll be retiring the character after all of the episodes Wallace has already voiced have aired.

We’ll really miss you, Mrs. K.
