Go Ninja, Go Ninja, Go! The TMNT are, “the world’s most fearsome, fighting teens.” Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello, and Michelangelo; four turtle brothers transformed by a mysterious ooze. Trained in the art of ninjutsu by their “father” and master, Splinter, these sewer dwelling brothers have vowed to protect New York City from the forces of evil.

Eastman and Laird’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles became a pop culture phenomenon in the 1980’s and 90’s. The Ninja Turtle brand has spawned several comic books, animated series, films, toy-lines, and video games. TMNT is an integral part of the DNA of everyone here at Aggressive Comix, and these beloved characters are so near and dear to our hearts. We could not be anymore overjoyed that the astounding popularity of the current animated series/comic books (and to a lesser extent, the new films,) has brought the heroes in a half shell out of the sewers and above ground for a whole new generation to enjoy and grow up with once more.

We have the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to thank for the name of our “beverage creation” show, Secret of the Booze, which is a play on the 1992 TMNT film, “Secret of the Ooze”. For that reason alone, they deserve a signature cocktail in their honor! We call this one the Mutagen Cocktail. It won’t change you into a mutant, but it will get you drunk and at the end of the day, that is pretty much the same thing…Right?

Ingredients
1 1/2 oz Pineapple Rum
1/2 oz Midori
2 oz  Aloe Mango juice drink
1 Bag of Green Apple Pop Rocks
Half a Lime
5 Grapes

Instructions
First, moisten the rim of your glass with water or simple syrup. Then rim the glass with your green apple pop rocks. Next add Midori, Pineapple Rum, and some Aloe Mango drink (Note- Any other mango juice works too, but the mango aloe vera juice has a cool slimy consistency for your ooze!) into a mixing glass filled with ice and shake. Pour into your serving glass. If you want to match our aesthetic, you can order your own toxic waste barrel glasses, here. Lastly, for a really cool touch, you can add an adorable baby turtle garnish to the top of the glass (Instructions on how to build are below).

Baby Turtle Garnish-  Take a half of a lime and push five tooth picks into it. You want one for each appendage (2 arms 2 legs and 1 head). Skewer the 5 grapes onto the other ends of the toothpicks. For extra detail you can use a knife or zester to etch patterns in the top of the lime for a more realistic “turtle shell” appearance.
