Just in time for Hallowe’en– Aggressive Comix brings you blood, gore and psychopaths with sharp weapons! And teenagers! So many teenagers to kill!

Without further ado, lets get to the list, AC’s picks for the 10 best slasher films!

10. Psycho (1960)

I know what you’re thinking, “Danny, WTF mate? Psycho ain’t a slasher pic?”. Oh really? Psychopath kills a bunch of people in the middle of nowhere and we get to see from the killers point of view? That’s right bitches, this is classic slasher material from the master of suspense himself, Alfred Hitchcock!

9. Candyman (1992)

Candyman. Candyman. Candyman. Candyman. Candyman.

Hook to the face! And bees… so many bees! I stepped in a beehive when I was a kid and have a slight fear of bees. So this gets on the list just for that… ::shudder::

8. April Fool’s Day (1986)

This here is one of those films that is too clever for it’s own good. On a spring break leading up to April fool’s day a bunch of kids hang out in a mansion (filled with practical jokes) on an island and start being knocked off. It’s mostly known for it’s twist ending and after this film, slashers were on their way out…

7. Scream (1996)

…Then Scream came out and slashers were again teenage film watching fodder! Wes Craven, one of the masters of horror, directed this smart horror filled with tongue in cheek references to all the slasher cliches. Inventing all new slasher cliches for the 90’s!

6. Sleepaway Camp (1983)

Another film on this list because of the ending. Unlike April Fool’s Day, the ending of this film was a “holy fuck!” moment. To this day, that face creeps the shit out of me! Spoilers in the following video.

5. Child’s Play (1988)

A doll, named Chucky is possesed with the spirit of a wisecracking psychopath. I had a My Buddy doll when I was a kid. Then I watched this film. I have no idea what I did with that doll but I’m sure I buried it somewhere.

4. Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)

The family that eats together, stays together! No where else is this more true than in TCM! While a bit light on gore, the atmosphere of this movie gets you right in the gut!

3. Friday The 13th (1980)

Classic! Classic! Classic! No, if you look into a mirror and chant that, nothing will appear– I think. Friday the 13th is one of the all time best slashers out there! Horny teenagers, cursed day, reclusive location, psycho killer and said teenagers are picked off one by one? Yep, perfect! This one also features a twist ending– but don’t worry, they fix that in the sequels!

2. Halloween (1978)

Both Friday the 13th and Halloween follow the same tropes– but, lets be honest, Halloween does it better! This is the film that all other slasher films are measured by. Brilliantly done and it made the slasher film a mainstay in your local movie theater!

1. A Nightmare On Elm Street (1984)

Wes Craven’s masterpiece! Freddy Kruger was witty and fucking terrifying! As great as the kills were in all the other films, having a killer who literally kills you in your dreams makes you want to stay up just a little longer. The supernatural element of the kills like the attacking glove in the bathtub or Tina being dragged across the ceiling while being invisibly slashed to death are just over the top amazing!
