Perhaps one of the biggest surprise announcements to come out of Marvel Studios’ San Diego Comic Con (SDCC) 2019 Hall H panel was the confirmation that a new “Blade” film was happening, and that 2-time Oscar winner Mahershala Ali would be playing him.

The announcement came during the tail end of Marvel Studios’ unveiling of their Phase Four slate, which included a mix of both theatrical releases as well as Disney+ streaming service original series- you can read about all of those here.

Original “Blade” actor Wesley Snipes actually commented to ComicBook.com on the casting news, welcoming Ali to the “Daywalker Klique.”

“To all the DAYWALKERS losing their minds right now, chillaaxx. Although the news comes as a surprise, it’s ALL GOOD. Such is the ‘business’ of ‘entertainment!’ Much peace to the MCU crew – always a fan. Honor and respect to the grandmaster Stan.
