photo-45I’m starting the new year with believable absurdity! Rob Reiner’s 1984 faux “rockumentary” This Is Spinal Tap.  This movie is played so straight by the whole cast; it’s ridiculous and hilarious yet masterful and effortless.

It takes place during 1982 with the world’s loudest band preparing for it’s comeback tour of America to coincide with the release of the new album. The group, Spinal Tap, travels with documentary filmmaker Marti DeBergi and he captures what turns out to be a fateful chapter in the band’s colourful history.

Side note**** Not only is the movie itself a classic, but the DVD is one of the best around with plenty of extras, deleted scenes, and my favorite, the hilarious commentary by Tufnel, St Hubbins and Smalls which at times is even funnier than the movie itself.
