We may not know much for sure other than yes, this new Blade Runner project from visionary Ridley Scott is being called the “sequel” to the classic 1982 film, but more information is slowly making it’s way to the light.

Denis Villeneuve is directing, with cinematographer Roger Deakins reuniting with Villeneuve on the project. Reportedly the story picks up several decades after the conclusion of Ridley Scott’s 1982 original, causing some outlets to call this project Blade Runner 2 for simplicity sake.  I cannot get behind that though, it sounds like a Lampoon-style title and not something I’d want to see.  So let’s just call it the “yet unnamed Blade Runner project”, ok?

Ryan Gosling is confirmed to be staring, and the new buzz per Variety is Robin Wright (House of Cards, Princess Bride) is in FINAL NEGOTIATIONS to join the cast.  I’m making that big and bold because final negotiations is not the same as confirmed by any stretch of the imagination, but it would be really awesome if she does end up in the film.

Will she be a Replicant?  I’m kind of hoping so, as you cannot deny the similarities in bone structure to Wright and the actress behind Pris, Darryl Hannah.

Principal photography on the sequel is scheduled to begin in July of 2016, with an early scheduled release date of  January 12th, 2018.  We’ll let you know as any more information becomes available.  In the meantime, go watch Blade Runner: The Final Cut and practise those Gaff origami figures.
