Holly Brooke here, interviewing Enasni Volz for Aggressive Comix. I first met Enasni Volz at SDCC 2012. She is the organizer of Harleypalooza every year, which is a blast! I was astounded by her DCUO Harley Quinn cosplay!
1. Your cosplay pseudoname is Enasni Volz. Do you mind sharing the inspiration behind the name?
Not at all! I actually came up with “Enasni” about ten years ago. I was trying to create a character for a fantasy-themed MUD my friends and I were playing at the time, and could not for the life of me come up with a name. So I went against the rules and just flipped the word “Insane” around, because I was an angsty little goth kid! A few years later when fleshing out the character I added on the Germanic last name of a close childhood friend and the name has just stuck throughout my various exploits online!

2. There are definitely parallels between some of your better known cosplays Harley Quinn and Mad Moxxi. What draws you to these characters?
I have always adored Harley Quinn, ever since I was a little wild child watching Batman: The Animated Series and the other awesome superhero cartoons from the 90s. I feel connected and drawn to her character for so many different reasons. It is mainly her outlook on life and love (minus the murdering and robbing, of course!) that I love so much about her. She very rarely lets anything get her down or ruin her mood, life is about having fun and enjoying what you do. She goes about everything with a grin on her face and a bounce in her step. She is determined, devoted and demented! Her unwavering love and devotion to her puddin through thick and thin, and the dynamic between the two of them, is also a huge part of why I adore her. Love is a huge part of my life and the decisions I make! As far as Moxxi goes, her confidence and sense of self is mainly what drew me to her. Not to mention she is gorgeous! She knows exactly what she wants out of life, and she takes it without a second thought to what anyone else may think of her or her actions. Of course, living on Pandora might be the cause of that attitude, but still! She is gorgeous, desired and badass… and she knows it! She is a very strong female character who isn’t just the eye candy or a damsel in distress. She can, and does hold her own. And the fact that deep at the heart of it all, she really does care for those close to her in her own way.

3. Are there any dream group cosplays you would like to organize?
Well I would say a huge Borderlands group, but my friends and I are well on our way to
that currently! It has always been a dream of mine to get a group of incredible Gotham Villains together for a group, sort of like Gotham Public Works. I think a Dragon Age companions group would be awesome, too!

4. As an avid Harley Quinn fan, what are some of your favorite incarnations? What qualities would you hope to see incorporated into the character into the future?
My absolute favorite incarnation of Harley is in the DCAU, specifically B:TAS. It is where she was born, and where she is most HERSELF. She is 100% the Harley Quinn I know and love there! There are also a handful of pre New 52 comic runs that are so perfectly Harley. And aside from the costume, I am actually very fond how how Harley is portrayed and acts in the video game universe. Arkham Asylum, Arkham City and even most parts of Injustice, her personality and actions are spot on! I really love Harley the way she is, well… was. The current Harley in comics is such a huge disappointment to me. I would love to see more of Harley’s resourcefulness and cunning played out with her love of bad gags/puns. She may be a sidekick, but she’s one of the few Gotham Rogues to actually almost kill Batman!

5. Based on your Borderlands cosplays and uncharted cosplay, is it safe to assume you are a gamer? Which games are you looking forward to most this year?
That assumption is 100% correct! Right now, I really just want to catch up on all of the titles that I h
ave missed this past year, like Diablo 3, Deadpool, The Last of Us and a bunch more. I haven’t had the time or money to play many new games this year! But I am incredibly excited for Arkham: Origins. Hopefully I’ll be able to catch up on all of my missed games this fall! Its worth mentioning that the announcement of Dragon Age 3 had me ridiculously excited, though!
