While I’m still not completely sold on the idea of Benedict Cumberbatch playing the Sorcerer Supreme in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, I am curious to see what director Scott Derrickson does with the character.

These images come from Entertainment Weekly, and offer a mix of concept art and the official first photos of Cumberbatch in costume and makeup.

“There’s all sorts of craziness,” Cumberbatch says. “Falling, flying, jumping, fighting, punching, getting punched. It’s really rough and tumble.”

“I’m perpetually awestruck that I’m getting to make this movie,” added Derrickson. “I keep waiting for the knock on the door when somebody says, ‘This movie’s too weird, we can’t make this.'”

Needless to say, this out to be an interesting entry in the MCU, with Tilda Swinton in the film as the Ancient One, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Rachel McAdams as the main love interest.

Doctor Strange is set to open November 4th, 2016.
