On its year-end financial earnings call, EA announced that it will be unveiling a new game for release in 2014 at E3 this year during the publisher’s press conference. The title apparently will be coming this fall. The game will however, not be a new Need for Speed though, as the company has confirmed that the series is getting an extended development cycle.
EA also says that it will be showing off six titles for future years at E3, of which we think one might be Mass Effect. Whether it’s an HD remake or brand new Mass Effect remains to be seen. With Medal of Honor out of the picture, EA is missing a fall shooter, and there are rumors that Visceral is working on something in addition to its Star Wars project.
EA has confirmed that Star Wars Battlefront will be one of the titles shown off at E3 (and presumably its E3 press conference). Check out the teaser trailer below from last years E3:
Microsoft Confirms E3 2014 Briefing Plans
Microsoft has also confirmed the details for its E3 2014 media briefing, including the ways you can watch from home. Xbox One will kick off the press conferences the day before the show opens.
On Monday June 9, at 9:30 a.m. Pacific, you can tune into what Microsoft is calling “Xbox: Game On.” In addition to the in-person audience, viewers will be able to check it out on Xbox.com, Xbox Live, Windows Phone, and on Spike TV (US and Canada).
Microsoft hasn’t revealed any content details except that there will be games for “2014 and beyond.” It is very possible that Sunset Overdrive will make an appearance though.
No plans have yet been announced for Twitch streaming. There will be fan events in Los Angeles for those that are local.
Nintendo Finally Puts To Rest Rumors Of E3 Hardware Reveal
Recently there have been thinly sourced rumors circulating that Nintendo might reveal new hardware at E3. With the flagging performance of the Wii U many have wondered if Nintendo might ramp up its development of a new console.
If the company will be revealing something in 2014 though, it won’t be at E3. Nintendo has confirmed that the Nintendo Direct “digital event” the company will be holding in lieu of an E3 press conference will not include new hardware.
The company is still however, working on a “quality of life” platform that could be revealed before the end of the next fiscal year (ending March 31, 2015).
That’s it for all the E3 news for now. Check back with us and of course during the event for more news.
E3 2014 will take place from June 9 through June 12 in Los Angeles.
