Take this how you will, with all the stories about how Fox-Sony and Marvel-Disney are trying to stick it to each other with their superhero movies and everything…..but it looks like Josh Trank will directing one of the stand alone Star Wars movies.  Gareth Edwards is already on board for the first spinoff Star Wars film.  How does this tie in to the Marvel-Fox thing?  Well, Josh is the director attached to the new Fantastic Four reboot, and there have been rumors up and down the internets the new film was going to be scrapped, for a second time.   I guess now we know why.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Josh into the family,” says Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy. “He is such an incredible talent and has a great imagination and sense of innovation. That makes him perfectly suited to Star Wars, and for this new slate of movies that reach beyond the core characters and storylines of Episodes I through IX.”

Trank states, “The magic of the Star Wars Universe defined my entire childhood. The opportunity to expand on that experience for future generations is the most incredible dream of all time.”

He’s also been no stranger to the superhero film, having directed 2012’s Max Landis-penned Chronicle.
