I really wish I had the resources to make a 50hundred page article on the Awesome Cosplay Australia has to offer, but allas, I cannot /sadface.jpg. This article shall suffice.

– What I can do is give you a looky see into some of what we have to offer, plus some short interviews so you can get hooked and type your geeky little fingers off finding all the Australian Cosplay Radness you awesome little eggs can handle.

For those who do not know what Cosplay is (In layman’s terms): Dressing in costume – Characters from Anime/Manga/Books/Films/Cartoons/TV series/Games and Comics. – Usually depicting characters as realistically as possible. – This is done as a personal preference, not an adoption of a holiday or a fancy dress party. To such an extent sometimes people adapt to taking on the mannerism of the character and sometimes engage in role-play associated with them. – A lot of the outfits donned by these professionals are not store bought but hand made.
– A lot of : Blood, sweat, flaky skin and tears of frustration/joy goes into the final outcome.

Below are some interviews I have compiled of active Australian Cosplayers.
Don’t get your AC nickers in a bunch, there will be pics.

– Name: Predatorette.

– Location
: Sydney Australia.

– Cosplay group: I guess you could just think of us an an Alien vs Predator group with the occasional marine! However I represent The Hunters Lair  www.thehunterslair.com
I also cosplay as Catwoman with Gotham’s Finest who are a NSW based Batman group who do a lot of charity work.

– How long have you been Cosplaying?: I started in 2010 when I was watching The Big Bang Theory and they went to Comic Con. I immediately thought wow that looks awesome I wonder if we do that over here? And the week after Supanova Sydney was on! I went to that dressed up as a dodgy Lara Croft and met Nick who does the Alien with me now. Ever since then my costumes exploded and Predatorette was born.

.

– Est events attended in Cosplay?: I have been to EB Games Expo Sydney, three Supanova Sydneys, one Brisbane and one Gold Coast Supanova, one Armageddon, Heroes and Villains Sydney, two Sydney Zombie Walks, a Cancer Relay For Life, Penrith City Festival parade, Day of Heoroes at Cronulla, and a Make a Wish Foundation wish for a little batman in the making. Will be attending this year’s Brisbane Supanova in November.

– Costume preferences?: I prefer to wear my Predator now than what it used to be as I have gone from a thicker cotton suit to a morph suit making it easier to deal with the heat. The head is the worst part of the costume as it is hard to breath and it prevents all heat loss from occurring as your head is that point where your heat comes out! I also wear the Alien costume which I find to be the most uncomfortable costume on earth! Costumes like my Lara Croft, Kitana and Catwoman are the best as there is no movement, vision, hearing or heat issues. I can also eat food in them.

– How much effort do you est goes into your Cosplay?: I find I obsess over my Predator Costume the most as it is my favourite build. I built it from scratch and have put in so many hours into it. I have been working on it over the past year on and off but once I start a project I usually spend every spare moment on it. It took me about two months straight once I moved house and set up a studio to finish off the new revamped Predatorette you see now. It took me about the same to make the old one up. It is a lot of money and brain power and hours spent putting it together with glue and cutting things and sculpting things.

– Favourite event/s you have attended in Cosplay?:
By far my favourite event is Supanova particularly the Gold Coast one as it has excellent facilities and is well run and the Sydney one as most of my costume friends are there.

– Is there anybody you wish to shoutout/thank?:
I would like to thank all the boys and girls from The Hunters Lair for all their inspiration particularly Lauren who inspired me with her amazing female Predator build. I would also like to thank Nick for being his great Alien self and for being that first point of inspiration for starting this Predator building frenzy of mine.

.
– How much effort do you est goes into your Cosplay?: Well I can’t sew or anything like that, I’m tying to learn. So I have bought the cosplays I have and got my mum to alter them if needed, but I do try to make it look as close to the character as possible. So I would say I put a bit of effort in not as much as the people who make there costumes by hand tho.
– Favourite event/s you have attended in Cosplay?:
I really love Animania, its not as crowed as some of the other events and its a very specific event just being for anime and not games, tv, books and everything

– Is there anybody you wish to shoutout/thank?:
My mum for being helpful even tho she thought it was weird. My best friend Amy who Cosplayed with me so i was not by my self at cons even tho she does not like to cosplay. And most importantly my fiancée who though it made me look even more cute. <3

– Name:  Toby Cheffins.
– Location:  Perth Western Australia
– Cosplay group:  WA Ghostbusters,  Rebel Empire Workshops.
– How long have you been Cosplaying?:  3 years.
.
.
– Est events attended in Cosplay?: (conventions only) Super Nova 2011,  Wai Con 2010-2012,  Swan Con 2010-2012,  Armageddon 2012.
– Costume preferences?:  Alucard (hellsing),  Ghostbuster,  Jedi/Sith.
– How much effort do you est goes into your Cosplay?:  Depending on the costume it can vary. I try to ad as much detail into my costumes as possible, but it all comes down to how much detail is needed. My Alucard costume is a tailor made suit made of 100% quality wool, and I went to a Millinery specialist to achieve the solid brim.  – With my Ghostbusters costume, props are the main concern and trying to find accurate parts or resin casts for components can take months to source.
– Favourite event/s you have attended in Cosplay?: My favourite event I have done in cosplay would have to be a promotional job I did with Rebel Empire Workshops at JBHIFI Carousel for the release of star wars on BluRay. Getting the chance to wear my sith Keldor character costume and interact with customers to promote the sales was a joy. People had no idea what was happening and they enjoyed it.
– Is there anybody you wish to shoutout/thank?:  All the people who comprehend and understand the hobby I choose to follow, and help and support me along the journey. Peers that cheer you on and help you out when you get in over your head on a build. And the creators of the shows we imitate, who encourage us to keep doing what we do in the fan bases. There are too many to list but they are all awesome.

– How long have you been cosplaying?: Since June 2010.
– Est. events attended in cosplay: 9.
– Costume preferences: Bayonetta is my favourite 🙂:)

– How much effort do you est goes into your cosplay?:
Too much! 100-200 hours for the more complex costumes, 50 hours for the less complicated, not to mention the money that goes into them either >.>
– Favourite event/s you have attended in cosplay?:
Supanova has been my favourite due to the amount of other cosplayers you meet there 🙂:)

– Is there anybody you wish to shoutout/thank?: My partner for being so supportive, and the amazing people I’ve met while cosplaying, always making me want to do it!

– Name: Jason Byass (Night Haunter).
– Location: Macarthur NSW.
– How long have you been Cosplaying?: Almost 2 years.
 – Est events attended in Cosplay?: 5+
– Costume preferences?: Anything that I like… Includes anime, movies, games, etc.
– How much effort do you est goes into your Cosplay?:
A lot!! I take pride in making my cosplays as accurate as possible and like to pay a lot to detail. Most copslays I make myself in turns of outfits or props but if I do buy items related to my character I tend to modify then to as close to the base as possible 🙂:)
– Favourite event/s you have attended in Cosplay?:
My favourite event thus far has to go to SMASH 2012, love the atmosphere there and because it’s slightly smaller then the big events it’s easier to meet new people. In saying that I still really enjoy SUPANOVA SYDNEY, because your hard work and detail to a cosplay really stands out amongst the crowds.

– Is there anybody you wish to shoutout/thank?: YES!!  Massive shoutout to Candice McLaughlin, amazing friend/cosplayer who I met at Supanova last year. She was the person who got me started in taking my first steps in ‘Professional Cosplaying’. – Another notable person is definitely Ecky Reyes, I first met him through Candice and he has boosted my Cosplaying immensely with his fantastic photoshoot of my main 3 cosplays…. All photos supplied are done by him and he deserves every bit of credit due 😀:D
