This might be just the thing the rebooted Star Trek franchise needs to keep it’s motivation.  I say this because there isn’t a single hardcore Trek fan who LIKED Star Trek: Into Darkness, and as soon as Orci was named director of the third installment, interest went down faster than Kirk on an Orion.

While not much is known about the story for the film, we do know that originally, before the disappointment that was Into Darkness, JJ Abrams was going to helm it just like he did the first two.  But a little thing called Star Wars happened, and now the good ship lensflair is off to a galaxy far far away.

In this piece by Deadline, the author claims to know some insider news about why Orci is no longer directing.  They go on to state Orci will stay with the film as a producer.  There is also supposedly a very short list of directors being approached, one of which being Edgar Wright.

We’ll let you know as this story progresses.  Who do YOU think should direct the film?  Does the rebooted franchise need another film?  I think I’ll just go watch Axanar again because it’s awesome.
