STARZ’s adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s Hugo award winning novel American Gods has announced two more names to add to their growing cast of deities.
At the beginning of the tale, our lead character Shadow (played by Ricky Whittle) is in a prison cell with one person for company. That person is a surprisingly philosophical individual of questionable repute named Low Key Lyesmith, and Jonathan Tucker (Empire, Texas Chainsaw Massacre) is set to bring the character to life. Low Key has a pivotal role to play in the inevitable battle of the gods, but I will say no more than that!
Our next deities is not an old god, in fact he’s the leader of the New Gods – a one Mr. World will be played by Crispin Glover (Alice in Wonderland. Back to the Future). Mr. World is seemingly omniscient, yet constantly frustrated by his subordinate deities and their bickering. Mr. World is the Big Bad of the story, so it will be very interesting to see Glover play such a pivotal role.
American Gods is the saga of the Americas, it’s peoples and all the gods they brought with them when coming to the New World. Neil Gaiman, the author of the Hugo and Nebula award winning novel on which the series is to be based, wrote an incredible tale of belief and faith and the very real power those two things can have. When it comes to worship in the modern world, it becomes a question of which gods to put faith in, the old gods or the very new ones such as the Internet and Television. Starz is set to bring all of our favorite gods and goddesses to life when they begin shooting next week.
Stay tuned for more divine casting news as it breaks!
