American Gods from STARZ has debuted it’s first images of Bilquis – the ancient goddess of love – ahead of San Diego Comic Con.  Yetida Badaki (Aquarius, Masters of Sex) will be portraying the deity, and I have to tell you Aggressors, she looks EXACTLY how I imagined when reading the book.

Bilquis is an ancient goddess of love and fertility struggling to recover some of the worship she inspired hundreds of years ago, while living in the modern bustle of Los Angeles.

I am so very excited about this image, because if you have read the book then I’m pretty certain that you will know which scene this comes from!  Based on this shot, this production is looking to be delightfully accurate (and almost exactly what I imagined when reading the book).

We have also learned recently that Dane Cook has been cast in the series as well. Cook will be playing Robbie – Shadow Moon’s (Ricky Whittle) best friend and boss at the Muscle Farm.  While I was less than pleased about reading Cook’s name in conjunction with a show that I am very, very excited about, the character itself should be played admirably by the well-known comedian.

American Gods the tv series is based on the best selling Hugo award winning novel by acclaimed author Neil Gaiman who will serve as one of the executive producers alongside Bryan Fuller (Hannibal, Star Trek).  Previously announced cast includes such notable names as Gillian Anderson as Media, Cloris Leachman as Zorya Vechernyaya, Ian McShane as Mr. Wednesday, Crispin Glover as Mr. World, and Orlando Jones as Mr. Nancy.

You can expect more surprises and exclusives this weekend, as the American Gods cast and creative team heads down to San Diego Comic-Con. The series is set to premiere on STARZ sometime in 2017.
